Public Art Pete Helzer produced sculpture for the redesign of Broadway Street in downtown Eugene, the Riverfront Park Project in downtown Corvallis, the City Center Revitalization Plan (Vogel Plaza – which received the Governor's Oregon Livability Award) in Medford, McKay Park in Bend, Wilson Park at the State Capitol Grounds in Salem, the Tualatin Commons, and the Oregon Zoo’s Alpine Exhibit. He was a finalist for the Eugene Excellence Award sponsored by the City Club of Eugene, in 2005, for a bronze sculpture of Ken Kesey on the Broadway Plaza. In 2006 he completed several sculptures for Riverplay Discovery Village Playground in Eugene, Oregon. His involvement in this project began with a design charrette in 2004. In 2006, the park won the People’s Choice Award through the American Institute of Architects (Southwest Oregon Chapter), and the Oregon Recreation and Parks Association (ORAP) Design Award. In 2007 River Play received the American Public Works Association's Project of the Year (US Newsweek, June 18, 2007). Pete has worked with a number of architects and landscape architects through the years including the Portland firm, Fletcher, Farr, and Ayotte (Jackson County Library), the Eugene firm, Sherwood Robinson (Amazon Swim Park), and the Seattle firm, Cardwell/Thomas Associates (Corvallis/ Benton County Library). Landscape Architects he has worked with include, Walker /Macy Portland, Schirmer Schlesinger associates Eugene, MIG of Berkley CA, John Simpson of Bend, and city of Eugene Landscape Architects Emily Proudfoot and Robin Hostick.
